Hi, I'm Aaron Crowder. Or—if you know me online—CrowderSoup.

Father of two, Software developer, and lover of the open web. I like to take things apart (and sometimes even put them back together). I can frequently be found tinkering with some bit of code in my spare time.

Pronouns: He/Him, They/Them

I added some filtering in PADD and my microsub server. Now its way easier to scroll blogs!

The post editing interface on PADD is definitely better on mobile now. One problem still bugging me is that my phone keyboard doesn't automatically capitalize correctly in this input.

Oh well, thankfully it's not too annoying to capitalize myself 😆

Updated PADD Post Editing interface

Checked in at Updated PADD Post Editing interface

As of today the post editing interface in PADD has been refreshed.

Some new features include:

  • Autosaved drafts
  • Improved EasyMDE toolbar styling
  • Streamlined the title / tag / location / sharing toolbars into a single toolbar

This is just a first pass for myself. I plan to also update the photo editing experience soon. I'm also hoping to make it easy to edit any post on my blog with PADD.

EDIT: Post editing is also now available in PADD!

I've been scoping out some work for PADD and webstead to hopefully make them easier to use to share the things I'm currently interested in sharing.

If you follow my insta you've seen a lot of workouts. I hope that soon you'll start seeing them on my blog via a Strava integration.

I'm also going to be adding better support to PADD for post editing. This is a gap that I hope makes it much more useful to me in the long run.

So... #PADD is getting "Notifications". If your microsub server has a notifications channel then PADD will automatically treat them as such!

I realized that part of the #Microsub spec calls for a notifications channel when I was adding a microsub server to my blog software. So naturally if my blog was going to publish it, I figured my reader should consume it naturally.

Seriously, I am having so much fun building this stuff.

PADD Gets a Big Upgrade

I've been busy! There's a big batch of improvements landing in PADD today. It touches pretty much every part of the app so I'm writing this post to walk y'all through it. First though, I want to give a disclaimer: I'm building this stuff primarily for myself (not you, sorry). I want a good way to quickly post to my own site and read the blogs I care about. PADD is my attempt at that. If it turns out to be useful to other people, that's great. If not? Well, then at least I have a reader I like...

PADD Updates (last for a while!): Managing Channels and Feeds

Updates have been coming fast lately with PADD but that's just a function of the fact that everyone on the #IndieWeb seems to be obsessed with documentation. The wiki itself is a testament to that. I can almost always read a spec and translate that directly into features. That's what led to today's update, in fact! Updates Manage Channels Next to channels and at the bottom of the sidebar you'll spot some new buttons. These allow you to manage existing channels or add new channels. Manage Feed...
